Doug continues to add to his book collection of technical and historical subjects and to restore antique precision instruments. He also participates in school activities of his two children and supports his wife in her pursuits as a marathon runner. He remains active in pro bono activities with Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Following service in the Army of the United States (Medical Corps 1971-1973), Doug earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California State University, Fullerton. He was awarded Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He is admitted to practice in the State of California as a Certified Appellate Law Specialist, in the United States District Court, Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the Supreme Court of the United States.
Doug is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Appellate Courts Committee (currently serving as its secretary) and the Appellate Judicial Evaluations Committee. He is a member of the Irish-American Bar Association (previously having served as President), the Pasadena Bar Association, and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, where he edited the Association's Verdict magazine from 1991 through 1993. He is a Settlement Officer for the California Court of Appeal. Doug is active in ACE (Appellate Court Experience), a joint program of the California Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Rights Foundation in which high school students are involved in active appellate cases throughout briefing, argument, and decision.
